The 9043-MRU is the machine type of the IBM Power E1150, the four-socket 4U enterprise system in the Power 11 line. It scales to 120 cores and 16 TB of DDR5 per node with heavy I/O expansion behind it. There is one thing about this machine type that decides most enquiries immediately: it does not run IBM i.

The E1150 is an AIX and Linux machine. That is why it carries rPerf ratings rather than CPW and why it has no IBM i software tier. If you found this machine type while sizing an IBM i consolidation, the 9080-HEU E1180 is the enterprise Power 11 system you want, and the 9824-42A S1124 is the scale-out one.

All three features are dual-chip modules. Intermediate socket counts are supported, so a 3-socket EPEY build at 72 cores is a valid configuration between the rows above.

The lack of IBM i support is a hard platform boundary on this machine type, not a licensing option that can be added. Confirm the operating system requirement before any 9043-MRU quote goes further.

How to confirm you have a 9043-MRU

From IBM i

DSPSYSVAL QMODEL returns the model portion and DSPSYSVAL QPRCFEAT returns the processor feature code. Together those two values identify a 9043-MRU build exactly, which is more than the E1150 name alone tells a vendor.

From AIX, Linux or VIOS

lsconf reports the machine type and model on the first lines of output. prtconf gives the same alongside processor implementation and clock speed.

From the HMC

The 9043 prefix is shared with the Power 10 E1050, which is 9043-MRX. The suffix is the only thing separating a Power 11 E1150 from a Power 10 E1050 in a parts lookup.
