The 9824-22A machine type is the IBM Power S1122, the dense two-socket 2U scale-out system in the Power 11 line, spanning 4 to 60 cores in one chassis.
The 9824-22A is the machine type of the IBM Power S1122, the two-socket 2U workhorse of the Power 11 scale-out line. It has the widest processor range of any Power 11 machine type: five feature codes covering everything from a 4-core entry single-chip module to a 60-core dual-chip build, all in the same 2U chassis and all at software tier P10.
That flat P10 tier is the reason this machine type matters commercially. On the S1124 above it, adding cores can push the system from P20 into P30 and change the software bill permanently. On the 9824-22A it does not. You can scale from 4 cores to 60 without a tier change, which makes it the safest Power 11 machine type to buy with headroom you have not yet grown into.

Paired core counts are the single-socket and dual-socket builds of the same feature code, and the CPW figures pair with them in that order. The eSCM features post better throughput per core; the DCM features carry the density.
How to confirm you have a 9824-22A
From IBM i
DSPSYSVAL QMODEL returns the model portion and DSPSYSVAL QPRCFEAT returns the processor feature code. Together those two values identify a 9824-22A build exactly, which is more than the S1122 name alone tells a vendor.
From AIX, Linux or VIOS
lsconf reports the machine type and model on the first lines of output. prtconf gives the same alongside processor implementation and clock speed.
From the HMC

From the bezel
