HMC v11 Requirements for Power 11: What Changed From 7063-CR1

Updated July 24, 2026

Every current Power11 server, from the entry S1112 to the flagship E1180, requires HMC v11. This applies whether you run the 7063-CR2 physical appliance or IBM's vHMC virtual appliance -- the prior-generation 7063-CR1 hardware is explicitly not supported for Power 11.

Why this matters for your budget

Buyers upgrading from Power10 or earlier frequently overlook the HMC line item. If your current console is a 7063-CR1, plan for either a hardware refresh to 7063-CR2 or a migration to vHMC as part of your Power 11 project cost, not an afterthought.
