Which IBM Power 11 Model Do You Need?

Start with the operating system and workload, then choose the smallest Power 11 model that has enough capacity, software headroom, and room to grow.

The first choice is not core count. It is the work the system must run. S models support balanced IBM i, AIX, and Linux estates. L models are built for Linux-first estates with limits on IBM i and AIX. E models handle large enterprise consolidation, but only the E1180 supports IBM i.

Choose the family first

IBM i entry and branch systems

Choose S1112 for the smallest IBM i footprint, including the only Power 11 P05 option and the only tower form.

Balanced scale-out systems

Choose S1122 for broad P10 configurations or S1124 when per-core throughput and larger memory matter more.

Linux-first systems

Choose L1122 or L1124 when Linux and OpenShift dominate. Check the IBM i and AIX limits before pricing them.

Enterprise consolidation

Choose E1150 for large AIX or Linux estates. Choose E1180 when the enterprise workload includes IBM i.
