IBM Power 11 Management

HMC 7063-CR2 Hardware Management Console

The required v11 Hardware Management Console appliance for every Power 11 server, available as the 7063-CR2 hardware appliance or the IBM vHMC software appliance.

Every IBM Power 11 server, from the entry S1112 to the flagship E1180, requires a v11 Hardware Management Console. IBM supports two delivery models: the 7063-CR2 physical appliance, or the IBM vHMC software appliance running as a virtual machine. The prior-generation 7063-CR1 hardware appliance is explicitly not supported for managing Power 11 systems.

This is one of the most commonly missed line items in a Power11 upgrade budget. If your current HMC is a 7063-CR1, plan for either a CR2 hardware refresh or a migration to vHMC before your Power 11 hardware arrives -- see our IBM i Power 11 migration guide for a full pre-migration checklist.

Frequently Asked

What HMC version do I need for Power 11?

Every Power 11 server requires HMC v11, delivered as either the 7063-CR2 hardware appliance or the IBM vHMC software appliance. The prior 7063-CR1 hardware appliance is not supported for Power 11, so buyers upgrading from Power10 or earlier should budget for a console refresh alongside the server hardware.
