FlashCore Module (FCM)

FCM

IBM's custom NVMe drive for FlashSystem storage, performing inline compression and encryption in the drive controller. Not the same as Power 11's internal NVMe U.2 or NED24 drives.

FlashCore Modules are used in IBM FlashSystem and Storage Virtualize based arrays, which attach to a Power 11 partition externally over SAN, not inside the chassis or NED24 drawer. IBM has shipped four generations (FCM1 through FCM4) across a 4.8 TB to 38.4 TB usable capacity range, with generation- and capacity-specific part numbers and feature codes.
