NED24 NVMe Expansion Drawer
An external NVMe expansion drawer that extends direct-attached flash storage capacity beyond a Power 11 chassis's internal drive bays.
The NED24 drawer extends a Power 11 server's NVMe storage footprint beyond its internal bays. Drawer count scales with model class: one NED24 on the S1122, L1122, and E1180 (per node), two on the S1124 and L1124, and up to four per node on the E1150.
NED24 drawer count by model
| Model | NED24 Drawers |
|---|---|
| S1122 | 1 |
| S1124 | 2 |
| L1122 | 1 |
| L1124 | 1 |
| E1150 | Up to 4 per node |
| E1180 | Up to 4 per node |

Frequently Asked
What storage options does Power 11 support?
Every current Power 11 model uses direct NVMe U.2 internal storage bays, from 12.8 TB raw on the S1112 up to 244.8 TB raw on the S1124 and L1124. Additional NVMe capacity can be added via the external NED24 expansion drawer, and further PCIe-attached SAN or tape connectivity is added through the Gen4 I/O expansion drawer.
Does an IBM FlashCore Module go in Power 11's NED24 expansion drawer?
No. The NED24 drawer takes standard direct-attached NVMe drives, not FlashCore Modules. FlashCore Modules are housed inside external IBM FlashSystem or Storage Virtualize based arrays and reach a Power 11 partition over Fibre Channel SAN through a supported host adapter, not through the NED24 drawer or internal NVMe U.2 bays.
